While medical examination is an interpersonal relation of two people who rarely know well each other, the doctor's risk of false accusation must be taken into account. Following strict and well-substantiated procedures, keeping written records, and not forgetting about the presence of a reliable and discreet chaperone  are  three important rules of the greatest value in saving doctor's reputation, money, career or even life.

While the medical  staff's conduct is strongly restricted by law and professional code of ethics, patients are allowed to display variety of roles they fancy to act. Criminal or civil law are useless to protect doctors if the attacker is diagnosed as mentally ill and unable to control himself or herself. While many patients' sexual behaviour reflects pornographic imprinting and modelling they had saw, heard and /or read for example on the Internet, the mentally disturbed patients are much more prone to exhibit aggressive perversions and sexuality beyond any control.

Thus the workplace risk for medical staff must not be underestimated.

Some transient misbehaviour,  typical for immature patients, will subside soon after the adult maturity comes, and a doctor who is being provoked by a sort of seductive behaviour should understand that it is nothing personal and else than the patient's sexual role rehearsing which aims to know "if I am attractive" and somebody's reaction to the developing sexual attractiveness.  Such situations should be recorded in confidential medical documents, but do not demand any intervention which could be very harmful to the patient's self-esteem easily damaged  by  labelling  as a 'sexual deviant'. The doctor's job is to help not to harm.  For the same reason any signs and symptoms of patient's sexual arousal should go unnoticed and never commented.

A female patient

The differential diagnosis of lower abdominal and/or genital signs and symptoms in a female patient includes first of all:

*  most common genital problems like menstrual cramps;
*  most common non-genital problems like low back pain;
* sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and their sequelae  in a patient suspected of being infected as a result of even one only and not recent direct contact sexual exposure.
